We all know it. The truth, by now, lives deep in our bones. It need not be recounted in detail to be understood. We are in the midst of a worldwide reckoning. A crucible in the shape of Planet Earth. Layers innumerable and complex. Viewpoints equally varied and tangled. The stretch between extremes becoming something of a biblical desert that may only be crossed through miracle.
And yet.
The planet keeps on spinning. Even under the weight of our collective stomping and building-burning, this giant orb on which we live is heaving forth. Pulling and pushing tides, commanding the jet stream, hanging the moon each night, giving rise to the sun each day. Insisting that Mother Nature and Father Sky continue to come to the table to break bread, even when they’ve both had really bad days. All of this done with the innate knowing that sharp increases in hubris and heat, conditions requiring her to constantly emergency-adjust, respond on-the-fly, are not waning, but waxing.
And yet.
Onward she goes. Cresting and falling. Picking herself up and dusting herself off. Working through storms of rage and oceans of grief. Showing up because it’s what she’s built for. Why she formed and what her contract with the cosmos has been from the beginning. To turn, to transform, to respond, to regenerate. Not by measure of humans, but of something galactic. A scale that we can no more comprehend than we can genocide or a dying whale washed ashore.
And yet.
